Overview
Providing promo codes from your e-commerce system is one of the most flexible ways to incentivize influencers. Promo codes can provide influencers with discounts, free products of your choice, or comp their entire orders.
Promo codes must be generated within your e-commerce tool, then imported to Later Influence which will randomly assign them to the relevant influencers and enable you to distribute them to influencers using messages and the campaign manager.
To be clear, promo code incentives are designed to be a form of payment for influencers to use themselves. Promo code incentives are not designed to be shared with an influencer's audience.
Promo Code Incentive Setup
While the platform supports distribution to influencers, cost reporting, status tracking, and other efficiencies, promo code incentives must be created outside the platform in an e-commerce system.
Add promo code incentives
Promo code incentives can only be created at the campaign level. All influencers in the campaign are randomly assigned codes with the same description, cost, and value.
- Create a new campaign or navigate to an existing campaign, which must be in draft mode.
- Open the Campaign setup tab, then the Incentives sub-tab.
- Click the + icon to create a new incentive.
- Select Promo Code as the incentive type.
- Enter an influencer-facing description, the retail value of the code, and the actual cost to your brand.
- Enter the promo codes you have generated in the Promo Codes field, separated by line breaks or commas.
- Select the fulfillment workflow stage (Pre-Payment or Post-payment).
- Click Save.
Setup Fields
Description
The label entered here will be visible to influencers in the campaign manager (ICM).
Value and Cost
The setup form for promo code incentives includes fields to enter both the retail value and actual cost. If you are sending promo codes from your own brand, the cost to you is typically lower than the retail value.
The cost and value of promo code incentives are not shown to influencers. Only the cost field is used for cost-reporting purposes. See Incentive & Cost Reporting for additional detail.

Promo Codes List
Enter a list of promo codes you have generated using your e-commerce tool in the Promo Codes field. Enter codes as plain text, separated by line breaks. Promo codes can also be separated by commas.
The maximum length of an individual promo code is 150 characters.
Additional promo codes can be added to an incentive at any point.
Fulfillment
The Fulfillment field is required for promo code incentives. Promo code incentives are set to the Fulfilled status when influencers enter the stage selected in the Fulfillment field.
Managing Uploaded Promo Codes
Additional promo codes can be uploaded to a promo code incentive at any point after it has been set up. You can also view the total number of codes added, the number of codes assigned to influencers, and the number of codes remaining.
To manage uploaded codes or add additional codes:
- Open the Setup tab of the relevant campaign.
- Open the Incentives sub-tab.
- Click the pencil icon to the right of the promo code to open the incentive setup window.
You cannot view the list of promo codes you added until they have been assigned to influencers; be sure to retain a copy of the list for your records.
The number of promo codes available effectively caps the number of influencers that can enter the relevant workflow stage. For example, if you add 50 codes to a Pre-Payment promo code incentive, only 50 influencers can be promoted to the Pre-Payment stage. You will receive an error when attempting to add any additional influencers to the stage.
You will receive the following error when you try to add more influencers to a campaign workflow than there are promo codes available:
To resolve, please make sure there are enough promo codes added in campaign setup.
Once all of the promo codes have been claimed, you will be prompted to add more so that influencers can continue to confirm their participation.
Fulfillment & Appearance to Influencers
Promo code incentives are automatically set to the Fulfilled status when influencers enter the workflow stage selected in the setup of the incentive, unlike other incentive types, which are set to the Ready status when influencers enter the relevant stage.
Promo code incentives are displayed in the influencer campaign manager (ICM). The promo code itself is not displayed in the ICM until the incentive fulfillment status is Fulfilled, but a description of the incentive is displayed to influencers once its status is Ready.
Promo code incentives can also be sent to influencers in messages using promo code merge tags. When a promo code incentive has been added to a campaign, a merge tag is created for the promo code and added to the merge tag menu in the message editor. For additional detail, see Merge Tags.
The fulfillment status of a promo code incentive must be Fulfilled before it can be sent in messages. If the merge tag is used before the incentive is fulfilled, the merge tag will appear as a blank space when sent.
