Merge tags are dynamic fields you can insert into message templates. When a message is sent, the tag automatically pulls in personalized data — like the creator’s first name or the campaign due date.
This saves you from writing one-off messages and ensures consistency across all your communications.
Using merge tags
Merge tags can be inserted into:
- Message templates (set up in campaign settings)
- New messages (from the inbox)
- Canned responses (pre-saved replies)
- Replies (inside campaign message threads)
To insert a merge tag:
- Open the message editor (template, message, canned response, or reply).
- Click the <> icon to open the Merge Tag menu.
- Select a merge tag to insert.
Merge tags vs. Placeholders
-
Merge Tags (curly brackets) → {{first_name}}, {{due_date}}
- These update automatically when the message is sent.
-
Placeholders (ALL CAPS in [square brackets]) → [BRAND_NAME], [COMPENSATION]
- These do not update automatically. You must replace them manually before saving.
Campaign vs. Non-campaign messages
- Inside campaigns → All merge tags are available, including campaign-specific details like due dates, hashtags, or campaign links.
- Outside campaigns → Only a limited selection of tags is available (e.g., first name, last name, email). Campaign-specific tags (e.g., {{due_date}}, {{binding_hashtag}}, {{campaign_name}}) cannot be used.
- General Inquiries folder (Messages section) → Merge tags are not supported in replies here.
Merge tags by category
Creator Details
These tags pull plain text from the creator’s profile. If no data exists for a field (e.g., missing phone number), the tag will display as a blank space.
Examples:
- {{first_name}}, {{last_name}} — Creator’s name
- {{email}} — Creator’s email address
Campaign Details
These tags pull data from your campaign setup.
Examples:
- {{campaign_name}} — Campaign name
- {{draft_due_date}} — Draft submission due date (if Draft Review is enabled)
- {{content_due_date}} — Final deliverables due date
- {{binding_hashtag}} — Required campaign hashtag for automatic content tracking
Campaign links
Campaign links insert unique, clickable hyperlinks into your messages. When a creator clicks, they’ll log in and be redirected to their personal campaign view.
By default, these appear as linked words such as HERE or APPLY NOW. You can change the link text by clicking the pencil icon when editing.
Deliverables & Incentives tags
These tags are only available if your campaign is set up with deliverables or incentives:
-
Review submission links → Generated for each product’s review form.
- Tag name: Product Review: [product name]
-
Tracking links → Unique for Amplify Content deliverables.
- Tag name: [Link Description] (Tracking Link)
-
Promo codes → Randomly assigned to each creator from your uploaded list.
- Tag name: Promo Code: [Incentive Description]
-
Tracking numbers → For shipped product incentives.
- Tag name: Tracking Number: [Incentive Description]
Influencer properties
If you’ve created custom influencer properties (with merge tag option enabled), they appear in a separate folder in the Merge Tag menu.
Use them to personalize messages with specific data (e.g., clothing size, product preference).
- Click the star icon in the message editor.
- Select the influencer property you want to insert.
If no property is filled in, the field will be blank.
Troubleshooting common questions
“Why is my merge tag showing up as {{first_name}} instead of the creator’s name?”
Merge tags only populate when the message is actually sent. If you’re previewing, you may still see the raw tag. Send a test email to yourself to confirm.
“Why do I see [BRAND_NAME] in my emails?”
That’s a placeholder, not a merge tag. Placeholders never update automatically. Always delete them and type in your own text before sending.
“Why is a field blank in my email?”
If the creator hasn’t provided the information (e.g., no phone number or no shipping address), the merge tag will be empty.
Double-check the creator’s profile in Later Influence to confirm if the data exists.
“Can I change how links appear?”
Yes. By default, campaign links insert as hyperlinked text like HERE or APPLY NOW. To change the visible text, click the pencil icon when editing the link.
“Why can’t I find a merge tag I used in another campaign?”
Some merge tags only appear if your campaign is set up with certain features (e.g., deliverables, incentives, influencer properties).
Check your campaign setup — if the feature isn’t enabled, the tag won’t be available.
