Promo code incentives let you reward creators with discounts, free products, or comped orders through your e-commerce system. They’re a flexible way to compensate creators and track costs inside Later Influence.
Important: Promo code incentives are intended for creators to use themselves — they’re not designed to be shared with their audience.
For a complete overview of incentive options, see Incentives Overview.
How Promo Code Incentives Work
- Codes should be generated in your e-commerce platform (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce).
- Each code must be unique and is automatically assigned to one creator.
- Later Influence allows you to upload, assign, and track codes at the campaign level.
- You control fulfillment timing (when the creator receives their code), as well as the value and cost for ROI reporting.
Note: Later Influence tracks which code is assigned, its stated value, and cost — but whether or not the code is redeemed must be tracked in your e-commerce system.
Adding Promo Code Incentives
- Create or open a campaign in Draft mode.
- Go to Setup → Incentives.
- Click the + icon and select Promo Code.
- Complete the setup fields:
- Incentive Description → What the creator sees in Campaign Manager.
-
Promo Codes → Paste codes generated from your e-commerce system (separate by commas).
- The maximum length of an individual promo code is 150 characters.
- Value → The retail value of the code.
- Cost → Your actual cost to provide the code (for reporting).
-
Fulfillment Timing → Choose when the incentive is marked as fulfilled:
- Pre-Payment → Code is released when the creator is confirmed and moved into pre-payment.
- Post-Payment → Code is released after they complete required content.
- Click Save.
Managing Uploaded Codes
Once a Promo Code incentive has been set up, you can upload additional codes anytime under Setup → Incentives.
- Keep a copy of the full code list for your records (you can’t view them in-platform until assigned).
- The number of codes available caps the number of creators who can move into the incentive stage.
Example: If you add 50 codes to a Pre-Payment incentive, only 50 creators can be promoted.
If you run out of codes, you’ll see an error and must upload more to continue:
What Creators See
Once the creator is in the relevant workflow stage (pre-payment or post-payment), they will see the incentive description and their unique promo code. Codes can also be sent in emails using merge tags.
Note: If a merge tag is used before the creator is in the correct stage, it will appear blank.
Best Practices
- Always generate extra codes — this avoids errors if more creators join.
- Keep value vs. cost accurate for proper ROI reporting.
- Use merge tags in message templates to automatically send codes once they’re ready.
- Treat promo codes as part of your incentive planning — align them with product sampling, discounts, or gifting strategies.
