Learn how to add Later Pay cash incentives, pay creators, and track and manage payments in Later Influence.
What is Later Pay
Later Pay is Later's built-in way to pay creators cash for campaign work, directly from Later Influence. You add a Later Pay cash incentive to a campaign, and when the work is ready you click Pay. Later handles the payout to the creator.
What it gives you and your creators:
- One place to pay. Set up incentives, pay creators, and track every payment in Later Influence.
- Creators choose how they get paid. Depending on their country, that can be a bank transfer (ACH or local), wire, PayPal, or cheque, in a choice of currencies.
- Tax details collected up front. Creators complete their tax form (such as a W-9 or W-8BEN) during payment setup, before their first payout.
- Full payment history. Each payment shows its status from submitted to deposited, with an exportable record.
Later Pay is for cash incentives. Gift cards, product, and promo codes work as before.
If you don't see Later Pay as a payment method when you add a cash incentive, contact your Later Account Team to have it enabled.
Adding a Later Pay incentive to a campaign
Add a cash incentive and choose Later Pay as the payment method:
- In Campaign Setup, click Add Incentive to give the same incentive to every creator
- Choose Cash
- Under Payment Method, choose Later Pay, then select an account based on its currency and available balance
- Enter a Value under 1,000,000 using no more than two decimal places
Choose a Fulfillment Timing of Before content creation (pre-payment) or After content creation (post-payment)
Things to know:
- Add campaign-wide incentives in Campaign Setup before the campaign starts. Once it's in progress, you can still add an incentive for an individual creator from their page in the campaign workflow.
- A creator must be in My Members before you can add an incentive for them.
Paying creators
You can pay a creator once their incentive is marked Ready and they've finished setting up Later Pay.
Pay one creator
- Open Incentives > Fulfillment, or the creator's Incentives tab in the campaign
- On the Ready incentive, click Pay
Pay many creators at once
- To pay multiple creators at once:
- In the campaign workflow, select the creators
- Under Select an Incentive Type to Fulfill, choose Later Pay
Click Confirm
Note: Creators who haven’t finished setting up Later Pay are skipped automatically, and the summary explains how many payments were sent and why any weren’t.
When payments go out
Later Pay sends payments in a daily batch at 6pm Pacific. Until then the payment shows as Initiated. Once sent, how quickly it arrives depends on the payout method the creator chose.
Cancelling a payment
A payment can be voided on the day it's submitted, before the 6pm Pacific batch. Void it from the payment's Transaction Details window.
In the campaign, open the creator's incentives tab by clicking the ellipses “...” and choose Transaction Details from the action menu.
Alternatively, go to Incentives > Transactions and click the info icon next to its Transaction ID. Then click Void payment next to the status and confirm.
The funds go back to your balance, and the incentive can't be paid again. After the batch has gone out, the payment can't be voided.
To recover the funds, contact the creator directly.
What creators need to do
Creators must set up Later Pay once in Later Social before they can be paid. Share the Getting Paid with Later Pay guide with creators who need help.
To set up Later Pay, creators must:
- Navigate to the relevant campaign with a Later Pay incentive
- Link an existing Later Creator payment account by verifying their email address, if applicable
- Complete their payment profile by adding their tax form (W-9 for US creators, W-8BEN outside the US), completing an identity check, and selecting a payout method and currency
Creators who already set up Later Pay for another Later campaign can link that account instead of starting again.
Checking a creator's status
Open the creator's profile from inside the campaign, then go to Payments. Status is shown per campaign.
In the campaign, a Later Pay dollar-sign icon next to each creator shows their status at a glance: green is Connected, yellow is Incomplete, and red is Restricted. A grey icon means the creator hasn't started setup. Hover over the icon for details.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
| Connected | Setup is complete. Payouts for this campaign go to this account. | Nothing. You may proceed with payment. |
| Incomplete | The creator hasn't finished setup, or hasn't started. | Open the creator's profile from within the campaign, go to the Payments tab, and click Send Onboarding Reminder on the Later Pay card. |
| Restricted | There's a problem with the creator's account that blocks payment. | Ask the creator to check their payment profile, or email campaign.help@later.com. |
You can only pay creators who are Connected. Others appear greyed out when you pay.
Creators represented by a talent manager or agency
Some creators link their Later Pay setup to their agency's account. You pay them the same way, and the payment goes to the agency, which pays the creator.
The creator's status still shows per campaign, so you pay them only once they're Connected.
Tracking payments
Every Later Pay payment appears in Incentives > Transactions, and spend per campaign appears in Budgets.
To find them:
- Sign in to Later Influence
- In the menu on the left side of the screen, click Incentives
- At the top of the Incentives page, click the Transactions tab to see payments, or the Budgets tab to see spend by campaign
Transactions opens on your Later Pay account. Filter by date, activity, status, campaign or creator, and export to CSV. Click a payment to see its full history.
| Status | What it means |
| Initiated | Payment created and waiting for the daily 6pm Pacific batch. It can still be voided. |
| Submitted | Sent for payment. The payment has gone to our payment provider and can no longer be voided or reversed. |
| In transit | Approved and on its way to the recipient. |
| Processing | Being processed by the creator's payout method. |
| Deposited | Paid to the recipient. |
| On hold | Paused, usually because something on the creator's account needs attention. |
| Failed | Didn't go through. The payment details show the reason. You can pay again once it's fixed. |
| Cancelled / Reversed | Cancelled or voided. The funds are back in your balance. |
Countries, currencies and fees
Later Pay can pay creators in most countries. You hold funds in USD, CAD and/or GBP, and creators can be paid out in many more currencies.
- Currencies you can hold funds in: USD, CAD or GBP. USD is available by default. To hold funds in CAD or GBP, contact your Later Account Team.
- Countries: Creators in most countries can be paid. Payout methods vary by country, and creators see their options during setup.
- Currencies creators can be paid in: Creators choose their payout currency during setup, from the options available in their country. If it's different from your account's currency, the amount is converted automatically. Any conversion fee comes out of what the creator receives.
- Payout method fees: The standard payout method is free for creators. Faster or premium methods, such as wire, may carry a fee, which creators see when they choose them.
FAQ and troubleshooting
A creator is greyed out when I try to pay them.
They haven't finished Later Pay setup, or their account is restricted. Check their status under Payments in their campaign profile and send an onboarding reminder.
I see “The account has insufficient funds.”
Your Later Pay balance is too low for this payment. Contact your Later Account Team to add funds.
A payment failed. What now?
Open it in Transactions to see the reason. Common causes are an invalid payout method or incomplete setup on the creator's side. Failed payments aren't retried automatically. Once the issue is fixed, click Pay again.
Why do creators need to set up payments again?
Later Pay collects tax details and offers more payout options. That needs a one-time setup, even for creators you've paid before.
Can I change an incentive after paying it?
No. A paid or voided incentive can't be edited.
