When do influencers need to disclose an endorsement or sponsored posts?

Any time there is a financial, employment, personal or family relationship with a brand via social media, disclosure is required.

Financial Relationship: These relationships aren’t limited to money. Disclosures are required if receiving anything of value to mention a product (i.e., receiving free or discounted products).

Employment Relationship: While companies may encourage their employees to post about their products/services, the employees must assume others aren’t aware of this relationship and must disclose their relationship with the company.

Personal / Family Relationship: Even when there is a personal/family relationship and an influencer receives compensation of any kind (i.e., gifts), disclosure is required.
