The keyword search bar in Later Influence supports a range of query types beyond simple text matching. This article covers the full syntax, including modifiers, hashtag logic, and special search modes.
For an overview of how keyword search fits into the broader discovery workflow, see Creator Discovery: How to Search, Source, and Find Creators.
Keywords and Locations
Search for keywords that appear in creator bios or post captions. The search chips that appear after you start typing let you choose where each keyword applies.
- Single words: Type without quotes (for example,
nutritionist)) - Multi-word phrases: Wrap in double quotes (for example,
"certified nutritionist") - Multiple terms: Separate with a space to search for different keywords
For locations tagged in posts:
- Single-word locations: Type without quotes (for example,
Boston) - Multi-word locations: Wrap in double quotes (for example,
"New York City")
Hashtags, Mentions, and Emojis
Hashtag and mention searches use OR logic by default. A creator only needs to match one of the terms you enter.
#nutrition #food returns creators who have used either hashtag. When combining hashtags and mentions, the platform searches for at least one hashtag AND at least one mention.
#food @latermedia returns creators who have used #food at least once AND mentioned @latermedia at least once.Search Modifiers
Modifiers control how terms are weighted and matched. Sort results by Relevance for best results with modifiers.
| Modifier | Purpose | How to use | Example |
+ |
Must include | Add + before the term |
+#vegan — only returns creators who have used #vegan
|
- |
Must exclude | Add - before the term |
-#vegan — returns creators who have never used #vegan
|
^n |
Weight significance | Add ^n after a term |
Nantucket^5 Boston — returns results for both, but ranks Nantucket 5x more heavily |
* |
Partial match | Add * before or after the term |
*dog — matches hashtags ending in "dog" like #gooddog; dog* — matches hashtags starting with "dog" like #dogshow; *dog* — matches any hashtag containing "dog" |
AI Search
AI Search automatically expands a single-term query to include semantically related keywords, hashtags, and emojis. Toggle it on or off via the wand icon next to the search bar.
For details on how AI Search works and its limitations, see the AI Search section of Creator Discovery: How to Search, Source, and Find Creators or the FAQ below.
Frequently asked questions:
How does AI expand my search?
The algorithm adds up to 5 related keywords, 5 hashtags, and 5 emojis to your query. These terms are not viewable or editable.
Can I use AI Search with multiple terms?
No. AI Search only applies to single-term queries. Entering multiple terms disables it automatically.
Why do result counts vary for the same search?
The algorithm selects slightly different related terms each time, which can cause small variations in result count.
Can I choose which nearby cities are included in a location search?
No. The algorithm determines the most relevant nearby locations automatically.
Similar Search
Similar Search finds creators with profiles and content similar to a creator you already know. The starting creator must exist in the Influencer Index.
In the search bar, type similar: followed by one or more Instagram handles.
Valid formats:
similar:@handle1similar:@handle1,@handle2similar:handle1,handle2
No spaces in the query. Separate multiple handles with commas and no spaces. The @ symbol is optional.
