Connecting your Instagram profile to Later Influence™ (formerly Mavrck) enables the platform to track your content and metrics automatically.
This article covers the different types of Instagram profiles, how to connect your Instagram profile to Later Influence, and how to troubleshoot common Instagram connection issues.
Instagram Profile Types
Instagram has 3 types of profiles: business, creator, or personal. Each profile type is granted different permissions via Instagram’s API, and only business and creator profiles are supported in Later. If you’re not sure what type of Instagram profile you have, it’s easy to check:
- In the Instagram mobile app, go to your profile
- Tap ☰ in the top right corner
- Tap Settings
- Tap Preferences or Account
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen
- If you have a Personal account, you’ll see Switch to professional account
- If you have a Business or Creator account, you’ll see Switch account type—tap to check which:
- If you have a Business account, you’ll see options to Switch to personal account or Switch to creator account
- If you have a Creator account, you’ll see options to Switch to personal account or Switch to business account
Tip: You can also switch your Instagram account type through these options, if desired.
Connect Your Instagram Profile
The account connection module is included on all campaign application forms as well as in the influencer campaign manager (ICM).
- Open the application form or ICM for the relevant campaign and complete any relevant fields until you reach the account connection module:
Note: The Required Accounts and Optional Accounts will vary based on the campaign. - Click Connect (or Reconnect or Add New) next to Instagram:
- Select Business Account or Creator Account from the dropdown (depending on which type of Instagram profile you’re connecting) then click Connect
- In the pop-up window from Facebook, log into the Facebook account that manages the Facebook Page connected to your Instagram Profile:
- If you’re not seeing a pop-up from Facebook after clicking Connect, jump to this step
-
Click Continue as [Your Name] without deselecting any of the permissions:
- If you have multiple Instagram accounts connected to the Facebook account you authenticated with, you can select the correct one from the dropdown:
- If you’re not seeing the correct Instagram profile as an option here, jump to this step
- Proceed to connect any other required social profiles for the campaign (if needed), then click Continue to proceed with your application
Enable High Quality Uploads
Once your Instagram account is connected, we recommend enabling high-quality uploads to ensure you provide the highest quality content to the brands you work with. This involves updating one setting in your Instagram account:
- Open the Instagram app on your mobile device
- Navigate to your profile
- Tap the ☰ icon in the upper right corner
- Tap Media quality
- Toggle on the option for Upload at highest quality:
Troubleshooting Instagram Connection Issues
Not seeing pop-up window from Facebook or Instagram
If you’re not seeing the pop-up window from Facebook or Instagram when attempting to connect your profile, it’s most likely that your browser (or a browser extension) is blocking it.
To troubleshoot this, first enable pop-ups on your browser window, refresh the page, and then try again. Here are instructions on managing pop-up settings for popular browsers:
If it’s still not showing up after that, it could be a browser extension interfering with the pop-up. Try disabling any browser extensions while you attempt to connect your profile. You can re-enable them once you’re connected. Here are instructions on managing browser extensions for popular browsers:
If you’re still having trouble after that, try connecting from an Incognito or private browsing window. See instructions for opening private windows on popular browsers below:
Wrong Instagram profile is being connected
If the incorrect Instagram profile is being connected to Later Influence, it’s usually because you’re already logged into that profile in your browser window and the connection module is picking up on that automatically.
To troubleshoot this, try connecting your Instagram profile from an Incognito or private browsing window. This will prompt you to log into the specific Instagram profile you’d like to connect.
See instructions for opening private windows on popular browsers below:
Not seeing Instagram profile as an option
If you’re not seeing your business or creator Instagram profile show up as an option to select, it’s most likely because it isn’t connected to a Facebook page that you manage.
Due to API requirements from Meta, a Facebook page connection is needed to connect an Instagram business or creator profile to Later Influence using the business connection flow.
To resolve this, connect your Instagram business or creator profile to a Facebook page as follows:
- Log in to Facebook
- Click your profile picture in the top right > See all profiles > See all Pages
- Or, click here to access this page directly
- Under Pages you manage, click the name of the Page you’d like to connect to your Instagram profile:
- If you don’t see the page you’d like to connect here, ensure you have the right access level for it
- In the left sidebar, click Switch:
- This will allow you to act as your Facebook Page instead of as your personal Facebook profile
- From the left sidebar, click Settings > Linked Accounts
- Or, click here to access this page directly (after you’ve switched into acting as your Page)
- Click Connect account > Connect
- Toggle whether you want to allow access to Instagram messages in Inbox > Confirm
- When enabled, people who manage your Page can view and respond to Instagram messages
- This setting can be changed later
- Log in with the Instagram profile you’d like to connect
- Once connected, refresh the ICM and repeat the steps to connect your Instagram profile
- Your Instagram profile should now show up as an option if the Facebook Page was connected to it successfully
